Talk About Tuesday - my junk drawer

The Lazy Organizer has started a new blogging carnival of sorts, you can read the details of Talk About Tuesday here. I'm going to try keeping my posts focused to organizing/household type of things - may just motivate me to keep organizing & decorating.

This week I'm talking about my junk drawer & my plan to take it down! I get so frustrated trying to sort through the misc hodge podge of items that don't seem to have a 'home' just to find a pen or tape or whatever it is I'm looking for. Regular readers know that I've recently moved. I decided to approach the move with the goal of purging items and getting more organized. I think The Lazy Organizer & The Organizing Junkie have rubbed off on me. I was at Wal*Mart looking for drip pans to replace on the old stuff & somehow ended up in an aisle full of all sorts of containers (wonder how that happened? :P ). I was a little overwhelmed & very excited about it all but showed some restraint & decided it would be best to measure my spaces first & evaluate what my needs are. Anyways, back to the junk drawer. I found my solution! (Still need to take measurements to be sure it will fit.) Isn't it fabulous? The best part? It comes with directions - sorda. Can you see the outline of scissors below the scissors? It's fool proof. I'm figuring that if I have something in my junk drawer that doesn't have a picture I need to find it a home outside of the junk drawer, or put it in a spot where I don't have the item that matches the picture. Like I don't have those tiny scissors & 20 little spools of thread. I can't wait to show you a picture when it's actually in my house. I found this picture on Organize-It, you can also order one online.

I need to go through my junk drawer so badly again! I have a wonderful, two-layer organizer in there very similar to the one you've got pictured, but I can almost not find it underneath all the clutter! There's also a bunch of stuff that's underneath the organizer that's making the organizer not fit so well anymore! (it hangs on the drawer sides and there's about a 1" space underneath where I've got several baby wipes flat packs which hold miscellaneous items like nails, screws, strings, tacks, keys, AA & AAA batteries, etc.)

Hmmmm, I think you've just inspired me to tackle that right now!

Oh girl, that is beautiful, and not in a creepy-way-to-organized-FREAK kinda way! I would love to get something like that for the CRAP I have in my CRAP drawer, except I don't have tiny scissors either, or a tiny deck of cards, or a tiny tape measure, or a tiny flashlight...HEY is this pic from the 7 dwarfs house?! ;-)

I'm sure your drawer will be all organized and shiny and pretty in no time! :-D

Man I hear ya, I so need to organize a few spaces in my house, espically my scrap space. It is a disaster. Glad to see you back. Hope all is going well with the new house.

I have that exact organizer and love it! I used it in my bathroom for make up and hair accessories for years but it is now homeless. I think it will work in one of the drawers of my new kitchen island when it's finished. I can't wait!

I hope we get to see your junk in yours next week!

You've inspired me to just do a basic silverware drawer clean up and organization. I'm thinking there's more junk in it that silverware these days! :) Thanks for the inspiration.

I, too, have one of those to organize my junk drawer. It works great but I do have to go in and re-organize it every 6 months or so.

Is it still considered a junk drawer if it is organized? Just a question I have always wondered about. Good luck!

Ah...the junk drawer! I can SO relate (as obviously many others can as well!!).

I want to tackle lots of small projects just like that over winter. Good place to start!

Organizing the junk drawer is pretty much always on my to-do list! This organizer you find is very clever though....especially since in has the pictures. Maybe my kids (and hubby!) would actually put things back in the correct spot! :)

I have that same organizer. And sadly, it's a mess. I hope your kids can follow the picture guides better than mine! They are hopeless.
Thanks for visiting my blog today.

I have that organizer and it's wonderful. I used some of the compartments to hold different items than the labels, but I used a label maker for those.

Have fun organizing!

Great idea! I would have to train everyone else in my house not to stash the junk back in the drawer.

Wow! Who knew a junk drawer idea would spark such conversation. I'm excited that I'm not the only one who got excited about this and really excited that some of you were motivated to tackle your junk drawers.
