Masterpiece Monday

Otherwise known as: "Look What I Can Do!" Well, I just made that part up. My best friend Chriss{tine} has started or is thinking about starting "Masterpiece Monday" so I'm participating - linky or no linky. This is a place where you can display the crafty work you've done the week before, for me it gives me another reason to make time to scrap - just so I can have something to post. Plus she's like way ahead of me on page production progress so I need all the motivation I can get. Thursday, she went to my sister's house and they called me up and we attempted to scrap via cell phone. Well they scrapped & were pretty productive. I however was not so lucky. I started a page and had the vision in my head and was really excited about it but the kids didn't take as long of naps as usual, were getting into my stuff, baby was fussy and Michael kept yelling at the phone to talk to auntie. So I put away my stuff, said goodbye and tended to the children. Friday I took advantage of the kids napping and finished my pages. I had cleaned the house enough to not feel bad about scrapping and am really happy with how my pages turned out. I may redo my journaling at some point because I couldn't fit all that I had to write but other than that I think they are really cute. Anyone who knows us knows that my son loves I mean LOVES to drum. He's been drumming since he could hold two stick like objects in his hands and hit something. But he doesn't just hit stuff, he can actually hold a decent beat. The pictures on these pages aren't the only ones that I have {or will have} of him drumming. I'm still waiting to get some pics of him drumming at my friends wedding, with the band. He was a show stopper, all eyes were on him and I was a proud momma. He used to run to the drums after church each Sunday and there was always someone willing to sit with him while he played for a little while. I love the papers I used and was so happy with the stickers used for the very long title. I tried a new thing to scallop the edges of the matting behind the four photos on the first page. I took the guard off of my corner rounder & used that to make the scallops. It looks fine but my OCDness isn't happy with the uneven scallops and funny corners it came out with. I'll have to practice more on that one.

To see some of my other pages click on the My Scrappy Stuff link under Sites to Surf on the left column. They are all on 2 Peas website - a great place to display & look at other pages as well as see new products. Thanks for the visit! Have a great day!

Check out more Masterpiece Monday & join in if you have any recent projects that you've completed!

Smart Habit Saturday {week 4 July}

Wow, so I think this is my fourth or more {?} SHS of being more of Slacker than a SMARTy Pants. I blame it on my hormones. My not so friendly visitor came this week, though I'm glad that she did since she was really late - like over 2 weeks late! - and I just don't want another baby right now. That would leave me preggy and soon have three kids under the age of three all while hubby is overseas - no thank you! If I were to get pregnant I of course would be happy & excited, after the initial shock and fear wore off, but since I'm not I can be glad for it. So this whole schedule thing is tough to iron out the wrinkles, I didn't look at it or try to follow it as much this week as I should have. But I did make my phone calls to the MK hot line so I'm doing something consistently. Oh and I took a little time this week to do some scrapping too! This entry will be short because I have a party at 2 and I need to get the house in order, myself ready and try to get some laundry done. w00t! I'm really getting excited about this and am hoping for more customers and parties. I hope you all had a better week than I and a good week to come. I likely won't be visiting everyone {I try to each week} until later today but I will see you.

Check out The Lazy Organizer to see more info about SMARTy Pants & join in on the fun or come back if it's been a while! Lara's computer has been down for a few days so no Mr. Linky to sign or post from her but you can look back on old SHS or browse her blog for great organizing tips!

Faithful Friday {week 5}

So my weeks are definitely not in good order, I've missed I don't know how many but this morning my blog buddy Kim at Daily Blessings sent me an instant message & reminded me - thanks Kim! What? you don't chat with your blog buddies? Oh, well I do, not everyone but some. Anyways I'm giving this another try. Spiritually I've been dry lately. We haven't found a church or actively searching which doesn't help, I haven't done a Bible study since Michael was little, I haven't done a devotion in I don't know how long, truth be told I hardly pray anymore except when I put my kids to bed. Since my mom died I've been conflicted with some things and I think the way I'm dealing with it {right or wrong} is just pushing things to the side and trying to get through each day. I realize that spending time in the Word, putting things into perspective, reading about all the good that God has for me at the beginning of the day would help me get through but I haven't been. No excuses, I just haven't. So I'm dry and I guess that makes it easy for me to forget about Faithful Friday. But really I shouldn't. The good news is that God is faithful even when I am not. I'll get more into this next week but for today I'm going to talk about what I pray for my kids at night.

Each night when I put my kids in bed I give them hugs & kisses and tell them that I love them. Michael of course needs water and specifies which blanky he wants to use and wants to talk & snuggle. Most nights I read him a book too but we're not as consistent as we used to be. With Lydia it's a little easier, put her in the crib, give her the blanket, turn on her musical mickey thing and say ni-night. With both of my kids I pray for them. I ask God to keep them safe & healthy and continue to grow their character & personalities. The main request that I have is that He fill in the gaps. I try my best, and so does my husband, to be a good parent but we're far from perfect. We've argued in front of the kids, shown them poor choices & get overwhelmed and upset at times. I ask God to fill in the gaps where I have 'failed' or let them down because I know that I'm going to make mistakes & already have. My mom used to apologize to me in a mostly joking tone about any future therapy I would need as a result of her parenting. Now as a parent I understand what she meant. The task is so daunting and overwhelming at times. To think that every choice we make not only in our parenting but just in what we say & do in our lives as ourselves {not in 'parent' mode} has an impact on our kids. It's hard to think that they won't turn out screwed up in some way. But God is faithful, He is the ultimate parent & can fill in those gaps. No one is or has a perfect parent and most of us turn out okay. I'm not sure if that all came out like I was trying to communicate but I'm a little hormonal and tired and rambling.

Thanks for stopping by and if you have something to write about Faithful Friday please let me know so I can come & read.

*Also, scroll down for some really exciting news on a post I put up earlier today. w00t!*

Contest Winners & Hormonal Randomness

Updated: I actually won something! After spending way more time than I'm willing to admit clicking on contests, reading the posts {don't want to be rude or miss a detail like what you need to answer or comment on in order to win}, writing my responses, typing Thanks! 400+ times and almost always filling in some 'wejkeqi' so the blog knows I'm not a robot, losing track of where I left off, mr. linky weirding out, losing my place again, mr. linky back, losing my place again and finally saying - I've done as much as I can my eyes are beyond hurt and my fingers are tired and I can't stand the site of my computer anymore!

It was all worth it though. And why? Because of this. Go ahead click on it to see, I'll wait for you. Okay did you look? Really? Isn't it awesome?! I'm not even going to say what it is, you have to look. See?! It really is awesome! I have no idea what it's going to look like or what I'd want it to look like or how any of this works but I'm so excited. Please, go check out Tina's Snippets and see what she's about and what she may be able to do for you also. You can see what she's done here, here, here, and over here too. I don't know when it will be done because I'm sure she has other customers & another prize winner but I'm excited! Can you tell? Oh it's that obvious? w00t! Oh & big thanks to Rocks In My Dryer for hosting this great giveaway!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been a little MIA this week, not posting as often & not reading blogs as much. Now that Dog Days of Summer Bloggy Giveaway {Extravaganza Palooza All Consuming Contest Gone Wild} is over I can get back into my routine. Just as soon as I've checked all 400+ contests I entered to see if I won one. There was a total of 506 contests to enter, some of the prizes didn't interest me {books on dieting, knitting tools - I don't do either} but many of them entered, if not for myself than to give as a gift. This was some serious stuff folks. I tried to enter all that I was interested in but may have still missed some or many - I'm not sure. My eyes were tired all week from it & I think my eyeballs tried to leap out of my head at least once. As I'm posting this I'm refreshing Rocks In My Dryer to see new links to the winners posted. So far nothing. And still nothing.

What else is going on in life outside of contests? Watching a Mr. Linky for new posts is like watching water boil - really boring and seems to take even longer. I suppose I would get an e-mail if I actually won but someone may post a winner before e-mailing, ya never know. Anyways so other stuff that has nothing to do with drawings, contests or giveaways. So yesterday I attempted to scrap but my children were working against me. They didn't take their full naps, Michael didn't sleep at all and were very whiny & clingy and all up in my stuff. I love 'em and they're sweet and I wouldn't trade them for anything but is an hour - three for myself too much to ask? Naps seem to be more of an issue lately and so are my hormones so it's really a dangerous combination. I managed to pick out photos, paper, scalloped a piece of card stock and adhered four photos. Now the rest is in a pile waiting for me to finish it. I will try to later today I hope, if not then over the weekend. I'd like to have something to show for Masterpiece Monday esp since she got three pages done yesterday and will probably have close to 20 come Monday, okay she'd really love it if she had that many but considering she got 10 done in like 2 days I wouldn't put it past her.

And still nothing won. That's a Starbucks gift card, Target card, Rachel Ray cookbook, personalized notebook, & a fun drawing case for Michael that are gone. I'm also seeing results for contests I didn't enter and there are over 400 left so I'm still hoping! I'll keep you all updated since I'm sure you are just on the edge of your seats waiting to see if I won something. :P Thanks for stopping by!

What I've Been Up To

So it's been a few days since I posted and as much as I love seeing my scrappy pages it's time to get something new on here. Yesterday I had my Mary Kay party. I had two people show up and it was a lot of fun. I got some great practice on my presentation, got to know two more people and they both sounded interested in hostessing a party in the future. As a bonus my house was so clean! I've got another appointment set for Saturday so I'm excited. Another thing that I'm excited about is the HUGE ENORMOUS NOT SMALL AT ALL dog days of summer bloggy giveaway hosted by Rocks In My Dryer. Click on the cute button with the dog wearing the glasses to check it out. There are 448 people giving stuff away on their blogs, by the time I'm done writing this it will likely be closer to 600 as this is spreading like wildfire throughout the internet. It is just amazing. I haven't made it through them all - though I'm hoping by the time it's over I'll have entered all of the ones I'm interested in. There is something for everybody! Some things that I've seen range from home made items like bows, hair clips, gift tags, bags, totes, hats, blankets, jewelry and more that I can't remember right now. There were books of all kinds, cookbooks, inspiring books, fiction, non-fiction, marriage, pregnancy, children, etc. There were also a lot of pampering type items, lotions, body sprays, candles, bubble bath and other bath products. My favorite among the items of course are the scrappy ones. People are giving away how to books, kits, embellishments, papers and all kinds of fun stuff. Oh and there were also a lot of coffee & chocolate giveaways too. I was intrigued by a few giveaways that had mystery boxes or surprise gifts. Some blogs that I want to make note of are this one that's giving away a variety of items, this one giving away scrappy stuff, this one giving away a book & looks like a fun blog, this one giving away books & hinting to a big announcement, this one giving away scrappy stuff from her business, and this fun blog that is giving away a Scrapbooks etc Techniques Idea Book. Whew, that was a mouthful! Well I just about got that done before the kids got up from naps. Now I must go so I can get a few things done around here and start preparing for my party on Saturday. Plus Michael's room is still a MESS! I need to take some before photos so you'll understand why I will likely end up getting rid of half the toys in his room. I'm in need of a new organization plan in there and I think purging is the first step. More posts on that later. Thanks for stopping by!

Scrappy Stuff

While the kids are napping I often catch up on housework, browse around blogs, check e-mail and make phone calls. Once in a while - I try for at least once a week - I scrap while they nap. Sometimes I can do it while they are up but it's so much easier without getting up every two minutes to change a diaper, refill a sippy cup, get a snack, change the channel, get out a toy, kiss a boo boo etc. And much easier without Lydia digging around in my stuff - future scrapper? {I hope so!} Anyway, while I can get some done while they are up it's much more enjoyable & productive to scrap while they nap. It's even more fun when I'm able to talk with my friend Chriss{tine} while we scrap together. We drink coffee, snack, chat & scrap - just like when I was back home - except we've got our phones on speaker and/or using blue tooth and we can't borrow each other's stuff or ask the other if a paper should be placed vertically or horizontally on the page. {And sometimes it makes a big difference!} Okay, so maybe it's not just like being back home but it's as close as we can get. We've tried to web cam at the same time but I have to rearrange my furniture for that to work so we don't do that anymore.

We scrapped together on Friday for a few hours and she got way more done than I did. I had 3 pages completed to her 6 {though 1 she got done after I had stopped} but still, she was rockin. She said she was going to post her pages to prove it so we'll see. ;) So here's what I've been working on lately, the first three on Friday and the rest in recent weeks. You can see more of my work at my 2 peas page. So far I've finished our honeymoon album, my bride to be album {minus one page} and Michael's first year {not uploaded to two peas yet}. I'm slowly working on finishing journaling on some pages, taking pictures of them all & uploading my work. A few pages have to be redone and not because 'now my style has changed & I don't like them anymore' but because of a certain person being in some photographs or mentioned in the journaling and it makes my stomach turn. I've already removed the photos or torn his face out but I have to redo the pages. Maybe it will be therapeutic. I'm still working on Lydia's first year {not uploaded yet either} and catching up on the family albums {some is uploaded}. One of these days, sooner than later I hope, I want to start on my wedding album. It seems like such a daunting task and I haven't fully decided how I want to do it though the one I did on picaboo has helped me with some decisions and ideas.

Thanks for stopping by & enjoy the pages. If you aren't into scrapbooking don't worry - I know everyone isn't {though I don't quite understand that}. ;) Thanks for visiting anyway & have a great day.

Smart Habit Saturday {week 4 July}

My Joe's Goals reflects a slow going roller coaster with a big climb at the end. I didn't have such a productive week. With Shawn having a lot of half days and trying to catch up from my mother in law visiting I've had trouble trying to follow my schedule. I did do pretty well at clearing the dishes at night, enjoying my time & drinking more water but everything else went down the tubes. This week I'm going to focus on that again & see where I need to make adjustments. I also want to start a new habit. I know, I know - I should get the others back in order first but it's been so long since I've added one and this is a small one so it's okay.

I'm an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics. There are two hot line numbers that I should be calling for information, encouragement & motivation. One is updated weekly & the other M, W, & F. So my new habit is to call my MK hot lines - 4 times a week. I think it will help me in getting my business started. If anyone is interested in seeing what products we offer you can check out my website, there's a lot of new fun stuff. Monday I'm hosting my first party and have invited my neighbors so wish me luck! I really want to be successful at this. I ♥ being a stay at home mom and my husband provides well for us but having a little extra money and feeling a sense of accomplishment outside of having clean floors would be nice. Maybe if I do well enough I can get me a fancy site and better yet - some new scrappy stuff.

Anyway, click on the photo to see more SMARTy pants & learn more about SHS here. If you haven't joined in on the SMARTness what are you waiting for? Just think of all the great habits you could be starting, or bad ones you could be breaking. Thanks for stopping by!

Deep Thinking Meme

I was tagged with this meme almost 10 days ago by Leendaluu over at Wit's End. This isn't your run of the mill meme either, she created it herself. Okay so I know we've all heard this question posed at some point in our lives - likely in school - but it's never been a meme as far as I know. To be honest the whole thing kinda shook me up. I went to bed thinking about it, well the first question mostly, and woke up still thinking about it. I'm pretty sure I was dreaming about it but I rarely remember my dreams so I can't be sure, but if I fell asleep & woke up thinking about it there must have been a dream in the middle of that right?Makes sense to me. Anyhow, I think I've processed it enough that I can write about it now. So here it goes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. If you could invite three people to dinner (they can be living, dead or fictional) whom would you invite, and why would you invite them?

A) First I would invite Jesus. To have the opportunity to break bread & drink with Christ himself, no way could I pass that up. I would have a whole list of questions for him; Am I living up to the plans you have for me? Why did my mom have to die? Please don't take my husband from me, keep him safe at war. Of course I'd also praise him for dieing for my sins and ask him stuff that we've all wondered about like: why oh why are there cockroaches?

Second I would invite my mom. She was murdered about 6 months ago by someone that she loved and who claimed to love her, someone we all trusted. What I would give to have one last meal with my mom. Oh how we'd talk. I'd ask her about how she raised such a stubborn strong minded daughter because I'm sure mine will be similar. I'd ask her about that day, what exactly happened and what she was thinking. I'd ask her what heaven is like and though I'm sure she'd have to sign some confidentiality papers the gleam in her eye would tell it all.

Lastly I would invite my sister. Though I talk to her often I couldn't go have dinner with our mom and not invite her as well. That would just be cruel and wrong and she'd never forgive me. I'd want her to share the opportunity to talk with our mom & show her wedding photos. I'd of course bring my scrapbooks & photos. *If I'm inviting them to dinner then I'd invite them to my house so my hubby and kids would be there as well, my kids would be reacquainted with their na-nay and maybe my son would even remember her after it, I think he's forgotten.*

2. At this dinner, what would you serve (meal planning is the key to the soul, I think)?

A) I can be such a *Martha* about things being perfect and what not so I'd clean up the house nice and order out some great food. I'm not talking pizza or Chinese here folks, I mean a catered five course meal with a variety of desserts to choose from. This way we have delicious food and I'm not stressed but can savor every moment of conversation. So I'm not sure what that says about my soul but that's what I'm thinking. I can't even think of specific foods at this point. I'd tell the chef to include a great salad full of fresh veggies & fruit and a delicious dressing and to be sure that at least 3 out of 5 of the desserts had chocolate and at least 1 must be cheesecake - plain or with fruit topping. I guess this just revealed that I'm so not a cook that I can't even think of a full menu but hey, that's what the chef is for right?

3. If you could go back in time and live in any era, which era would you choose?

A) Well, this one is tough for me. I love the era of the Jane Austen novels made into movies: Little Women, Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility - they all seem to be so romantic and much much simpler. However, the lack of attention to personal hygiene, limited women's rights and no internet does not sound appealing. To be a housewife in the 50's seems like it could be fun. I love the way that they wore pretty dresses and aprons while doing housework so that could be fun but again no internet and women didn't have much say for themselves. I think I really was born in the right era though; I have the internet, showering is strongly encouraged, I can vote my opinion and speak my mind and my life can be romantic and simple at times, plus I can dress up & do housework if I wanted.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you have it. I wonder what those last two answers say about me other than the fact that I'm indecisive? I will tag Christine, Nan, & Helen. If I didn't tag you but you still want to join in be sure to let me know so I can read your response. Thanks for the visit!

I Finally Made It On!

Updated: Well, it was short lived. Thanks to all who clicked. I'm not sure how many clicks I ended up getting but I guess it wasn't enough. My kids think I'm a top momma & that's good enough for me.

I'm a Top Mommma!
woot! I'm a top momma! I've been waiting to get on this for quite a while now and when I did make it on I was in California and didn't know about it until I came back home and found out I had been booted. I'd really like to see just how long I can stay on here for so please help me out by clicking the button. And if you haven't signed up to be a Top Momma what are you waiting for? Go check it out!

Works For Me Wednesday - Diaper Rash

As promised an old wives' tale home remedy - {from my mother in law who learned it from her mother} - that actually works!

Lydia has had a bad rash for a while now. The doctor prescribed her some cream and it would seem to help for a little while and then the rash would come back with full force. I felt bad for her and was frustrated with the cream & the rash. When my mother in law saw my poor baby's red irritated bottom she asked if I had any cornstarch. *A quick note to those of you who may not know me so well - I'm not a great cook, I don't venture too far outside my 5-8 meals that I feel comfortable cooking {read: I'm not afraid that I'll totally screw it up}. It's okay to feel sorry for my hubby - I do.* So anyway, she asks if I have cornstarch and I look at her blankly {because I have no idea what I would use it for if I did} and say, um...no. So the next time we went to the store we got some cornstarch and she put some in an empty garlic salt shaker - which worked well because of the large holes. I was instructed to put some cornstarch on the rash {with or without the cream} each time I changed her diaper. And do you know what happened? The next day, after about 4 diaper changes, she was noticeably less red and irritated. It really worked. I've got to admit I was a little surprised because why would cornstarch which cost only a couple $$ work so well when this pricey cream hadn't. I'd show you before & after pictures normally but it's my baby's booty so you'll just have to take my word for it.

For more great WFMW tips, ideas & stories check out Rocks In My Dryer and if you have something - anything - that works for you join in and share with the rest of us!

Our Weekend in Three Short Paragraphs

The long weekend is over and it's time to get back into our normal routine. Except it's not normal yet. Hubby is still having odd, short work hours & I'm recovering from sleep deprivation. Falling asleep around 11:00pm & waking up at 2:30am is never a good idea, but especially a poor choice when driving an hour each way to the airport. So forgive any randomness or incoherent thoughts, well more than the norm anyway.

So, like I've mentioned before my mother in law came to visit for the long weekend, arriving Thursday afternoon and leaving in the wee hours of the morning today. The kids had so much fun with her. Michael & her played outside a lot, snuck treats when mom {I} wasn't looking, and learned how to ride a bike. Lydia was especially sweet letting grandma hold her, give her sugar & kisses. I was a little worried because she had shied away from other family members while we were in California - just a phase for her age. But I think she felt more comfortable since we were home. We celebrated Michael's 3rd birthday while she was here. I left the streamers up from the week before, we blew up balloons & baked a cake. He was so excited and had a lot of fun. For his birthday grandma gave him his very first bike, with training wheels of course. She even thought of a little helmet, knee pads & elbow pads. He'll wear the helmet but doesn't like the pads. We tried them out on Lydia - elbow pads on her knees for when she's crawling around outside - good idea in theory not so much in reality. Sunday we drove into downtown Nashville. My mother in law wanted to see the Grand Ol' Opry and find some cowboy boots. We found our way to the Opry but she didn't find any cowboy boots that she liked. We did find a lot of other shops to check out while we were there though. I took some pictures of the old buildings, hubby in a cowboy hat {I'd post but he would none too happy about that}, horse & buggy, and street signs that looked like guitar picks. The most interesting thing I saw though was this mailbox that looks like R2D2. It was odd for two reasons, one - it looked like R2D2 and second it was in the middle of downtown Nashville. You've got to understand that most everything in the area was all about country music, cowboys & horses.

The rest of the time we talked, shopped & cooked. I tried chocolate gravy for the first time and really liked it. I mean who couldn't ♥ an excuse to eat chocolate in the morning? I guess it was something that my mil's mother used to make and she's made it, now I'll make it for my kids. Michael loved it - like I said chocolate in the morning. Shawn doesn't like it though and neither do his brother or step dad. Apparently it's also one of our state foods {mil was doing some research out of curiosity}. The chocolate gravy, chocolate nut pie & some kind of stew were three that I remember. I don't remember the meat in the stew but it didn't sound appetizing so I think I'll stick with all items chocolate. Well, my eyes are shot and I can't think straight anymore so that's it for today. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be posting Works for Me Wednesday tomorrow. It's an old wives tale home remedy thing that my mil showed me this weekend and it worked so come back to see.

Same Argument Different House

As you know my mother in law has been visiting us from California. Hubby happened to have a four day weekend, which worked out great. Friday morning he got up with the kids so I could get a little extra sleep and while he was at it even did a little cleaning up. Dishes were done, floors swept & laundry was in the wash. {I was thinking his mom aught to visit more often if this was the result} Then I opened the washer.

Let me state a few disclaimers before I continue; I appreciated his thoughtfulness & efforts and I know that my way of doing things is not the only way or the right way - maybe the better way but that's beside the point.

My laundry rules:
  • Wash full loads whenever possible
  • Towels & sheets go in their own loads
  • Work clothes are not washed with 'civilian' clothing
  • My tops get washed on cold so they don't shrink
  • All kids clothing {and often mine} must be checked for stains & get Zout'ed
  • Whites wash on warm or hot
  • Dry clean only waits at the bottom of the pile {or usually my closet} until I finally take it in
  • I wash when I know I am likely to fold & put away clothing
  • Prefer to wash separate colors but not a stickler about it {so long as nothing will bleed}
My husband's laundry rules:
  • Everything can wash with everything
  • Wash on hot
So what did I find in the washer? A mish mash of clothing - varying colors, towels, work clothes and my DRY CLEAN ONLY sweater. :/ I was not so happy about that. Fortunately he didn't pay attention to the temperature setting & it was still on cold so there were no casualties but that was beside the point. He didn't get what the big deal was, nothing was ruined and I said - but things could have been ruined because he didn't pay attention to labels. Plus, I wasn't planning on doing laundry that day but also didn't want a pile of clothing sitting out on our couch. I had just cleaned the entire house so that's not so much to ask right? My mother in law came downstairs laughing and said "same argument, different house". So what's your take on laundry? Do you have disagreements over laundry methods at your house?

Smart Habit Saturday {week 3 July}

Well this week has been a crap shoot. I was very productive through Wednesday preparing for my mother in law to visit and the house looked great. Thursday I picked her up from the airport and we've been having fun with the kids and catching up. While I'm still trying to work on my basic habits like cleaning the dishes and brushing my teeth I've been slacking in most other areas, except enjoying 'me time', I'm right on track with that one! I'm not sure what we'll be doing today so I don't have much time but wanted to wish you all luck in your habits this week and hope you enjoy your weekend.

I'm not adding a new habit this week since I haven't had much time to work on my last new habit and so many other need work. Although I must say that after posting SHS last week I did write up a schedule for myself, more of a loose guide, and was trying it out at the beginning of the week. So I'll keep doing that next week and make adjustments as I go.

Oh & if you aren't a member of the oh so fabulous SMARTy pants club yet check out The Lazy Organizer & join in already - do you know how many good habits you could have in place by now?

Expecting Company Gets Me Cleaning

I'm picking up my mother in law from the airport today & she'll be staying with us until early Tuesday morning. We are all looking forward to the visit. She of course is excited to see her son & grandkids {and me too}. She also wants to check out Nashville & get her picture taken in front of the Grand ol' Opry. It will be fun to have a familiar face around. We'll have the park to go to, bowling for Michael's birthday, a museum we can visit, Nashville to tour and whatever else we can think of.

What I'm almost as excited about is all the cleaning I got done preparing for her visit. There's still a few things I want to do today like clearing a clutter corner in the front room and purging some of Michael's stuff but my whole kitchen is clean & all counters cleared off, even the usually cluttered flat surfaces in the front room are neat & tidy. Our bedroom has improved some but we'll need some storage solutions to get it looking any better.

So while she's visiting I may not be posting much. I want to get a meme on here that I was tagged with a little later today. I definitely won't have the time to read posts as much but sometime Tuesday I'll be catching up. Thanks for stopping by!

8 Random Things

Yesterday my friend Melanie tagged me with this 8 things of randomness meme. As I was reading it this morning I thought it looked familiar. Then I remembered that Mary tagged me with the same meme while I was gone. I really did plan on doing it when I got back but forgot about it in the midst of getting back to my 'normal' life & posting about my vacation, birthdays, holidays and remembering other tags. Sorry for forgetting Mary! So here it goes, 8 random things about myself. Oh, the rules, right. Here they are:

The Rules: "Each person posts the rules before their list, then they list 8 things about themselves. At the end of the post, that person tags and links to 8 other people and then visits those peoples' sites and comments letting them know that they have been tagged, and to come read the post, so they know what they have to do."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Onto the meme...
a. I am 5'2". I'm sure my kids - at least my son, will outgrow me & I'm glad if they do. I have trouble buying pants because they are almost always too short. Sometimes capris are even challenging because they look like floods rather than short pants.

2. I always had really long hair and chopped it off the day before starting jr. high {7th grade for my district}. By chopping off I mean up to my shoulders, that was short for me. I grew it out long again by my senior year {my hair grows turtle slow} and then chopped it again two years later, this time up to my chin. {I met my hubby around this time}. I grew it out again and then chopped it off 2 months after we got married. I played around with shortish cuts & styles & then got an A-line haircut {my shortest ever!} when I was pregnant with Lydia. I don't recommend drastic hair change decisions when you are pregnant & hormonal, or just hormonal.

c. My eyes are blue. They are not contacts. I'm not on drugs. My pupils have been large since I can remember anyone asking me about them. That's not a bug in my eye. It's a freckle. If wearing eyeliner on the bottom of the inside of my eyelid didn't bug me you'd never see it. {I've really had these conversations with people}

4. {Halfway through & I'm struggling} I got my mom's feet. I used to hate my feet. They are bony and the second toe is almost longer than my big toe. It made me self conscious. I have funny pinkie toenails. They are tiny & thicker than the rest. They've always been that way. Sometimes I get funny looks when I'm getting a pedicure. I ♥ pedicures but am super ticklish & squirm when they start buffing. I should get pedicures more often.

d. I have freckles, lots. In the summer they multiply like rabbits & then hibernate come winter. They are on my face, arms, legs, back & stomach. I used to hate them. Now I don't mind so much.

6. I just turned 25 but probably look 18-21. When I got married I was 22, almost 23 and someone in my husband's family saw pictures and thought I was 16. :/ Growing up I've always been thought to be younger than my age and it's always bugged me. I know, I know "when I'm 30 or 40 or whatever age I'll appreciate it". And I'm sure all those people who have told me that are right, I'd just like to not get funny looks when I'm out with my kids and people are wondering just how young I started or questioning if I'm the older sister. The freckles on my face don't help the situation, neither do my breakouts. {Hello! Wasn't that supposed to stop after puberty?!?}

e. Referring to #6 my being confused for an older sibling to my kids isn't too far a stretch. I have siblings who are the same age & younger than my own kids. My parents were young {barely 15 and 17} when I was born. When I was 12 they divorced, 4 years later my dad remarried and a couple years after that they started having more kids. They just had their last, Elijah, 4 months ago, 5 months younger than my daughter. Chloe is 17 months & Hannah 3.

8. I like coming from a large family with many siblings but I don't want to have my own large family. Whatever God gives us we will be blessed and I would love all my children. However I just don't think that being a mother to 5+ children is my calling. I'm not so patient as I would need to be for that calling. If it turns out to be my calling God will work that out in me I suppose - he'd also have to work out a few things with my hubby who would be just fine getting snipped right now. I have the number 4 in mind but we'll see. I don't want to talk too much about it cuz as soon I start saying "oh we're gonna wait so long to have any more..." I'm pregnant.

So there you have it. 8 things of randomness about yours truly. So who do I tag now? I think I'll be a rebel rule breaker on this one. I just have too much to do today and can't think right now. So I'll make this an open meme. If you'd like to post 8 random things about yourself leave me a comment letting me know you are & I'll come check out your randomness.

I'm a Rockin' Girl Blogger {twice over}

Well I was going to write this whole post in a bright pink but I don't have a bright pink available in my options so this salmony pink will have to due. Anyway, so I was first given this pink badge of honor by my pal at wornoutwoman at the end of June. I was surprised when I saw what she wrote:
A Not So Desperate Housewife A beautiful wife and mother whose blog inspires me daily that someone can have it all.

I wasn't quite sure what to think of that. I know she was giving me a compliment and being very sweet. I guess I just don't feel like I have it all. When I first read it I thought about things like - family, career, large income, and all the material things that people strive for.
But after thinking about the 'someone can have it all' statement I thought about it differently. Someone can have the good & the bad and still be okay, someone can have the family & career and be happy, someone can be grounded on the truth and strive to better their life by reaching for the stars. I guess it just depends on what your idea of having it all is. Then my pal over at Wit's End presented me with the same award a few days ago and this is what she wrote:
A Not So Desperate Housewife: Becca found my blog through a comment I made on another blog and commented on mine. It was so great to know that someone actually read something I wrote. She’s a young mom with an old soul who shares some pretty deep insights.

I like the thought of being an old soul and someone thinks I'm deep? Wow. After getting two of these within two weeks I figure it's time to pass the pink along. There are no rules to this as far as I know, just that you put up your badge in a post and/or your sidebar and write a post about the award & pass it along to others if you'd like. So here's some girl bloggers that I think rock:

My Connection to the Outside World:Not cuz she's my best friend but because she is hilarious! Before I moved we'd hang out weekly and always had a great time. Now we read each other's blogs and I still have a great time. She has a wit about her and can put a funny spin on most anything, esp her sometimes hectic life with four kids, co-parenting & a crazy cat lady next door! You really should browse around her blog. {& leave some comments while you are there, she can see you} ;)

Rocks In My Dryer: Most of her stories are short & sweet but they crack me up almost every time. She is another blogger who can laugh at her life and shares her insights. Also, she hosts Works for me Wednesday which is a lot of fun & often shares links to other fun blogs to read. If you haven't been to her site you should go check it out.

Well there are a lot of other blogs that I read and love {check out the link buttons to the right} but I've run out of time to post about them so I will just have the two nominees. Thanks for stopping by & have a great day!

{I want to be sure that you all know I've got a great family & love them all dearly but my life is nowhere near perfect. We have plenty of issues that we are dealing with that I don't post about because you all {& myself} would either leave here depressed or just never come back. I work out the other things in my life, just not out on the internet for all to see.}

Blast From the Past

I was "tagged" by Tam from Mommy's Getaway to repost a previously written post. I took a long time to actually do this but now it is done. I wasn't sure which one to post but decided on the one below. It's a quick read but shows you the troubles I sometimes have with directions and driving. Also, I still feel the same way here - a little out of place and trying to find my way. Though I think I could find the scrapbook , well maybe. Oh and this is the post that Heather & I met and began exchanging e-mails and reading each other's blogs. Come back soon Heather! Rather than tagging people I'll leave this as an open challenge. Anyone who wants to dig an old post out, blow off the dust & post it for all to see let me know that you are so I can visit & read. Normally I would tag and all but honestly I just don't have the time right now.

Thanks for stopping by! Oh and it's another multiple post day, I had some time this morning & finally posted about our Fourth of July celebration - scroll down to see!

Mission Impossible??

Well, I did it. I braved the roads on my own. I was on a mission this morning - to find a scrapbook store in this new town of mine. After my last attempt that ended with a closed down store I was desperate to find a store with people who shared my interest - (who am I kidding) share my obsession, some hope of an outlet and place to meet other women as crazy about scrappin as I. For those of you who have ever tried getting directions from or giving directions to me you know that it's no small feat when I find a new location. I finally got the kids into the car with my handy (and oh so reliable) yahoo/mapquest directions. I don't know what's more to blame, the directions being different from exit & street signs or my wrong turn after the gas station. I do know that the smartest thing I did was buy a map at the gas station (along with gas or I would have run out I'm sure), so I took the more scenic hour and a half long route but I did find the scrapbook store - yay! Since we had spent so much time in the car I didn't have a lot of time to browse the store but got a good look around and was impressed. Got one item I needed and a couple I didn't ; ) On the way home I reset my mile marker in the car (and that's the technical term) to find that the direct route was only about 17 miles... But I made it and now I think I know the right, well faster way to get there next time. Plus it gave me something to blog about. I won't be defeated!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Oh and notice the new links I have to the right - some other great blogs and my Mary Kay.

I, too, know about driving in a strange place and looking for something that takes forever to find! I'm so glad you found the scrapbook store. Finding something you enjoy and are familiar with makes it feel a little more like home, doesn't it? Good luck exploring!

Our Fourth

I realize I'm almost a week late in posting this but with all the vacation and birthday posting going on I haven't had a chance until now. Well I guess I could have yesterday but I spent my free time while the kids were napping scrapping - I finished 3 pages, plus the two from Saturday and that's 5 pages done in a weekend! Anyway, back to our Fourth of July, Independence Day celebrations.

There was a festival here at Fort Campbell and on the third they had $$ days, each ride cost 1 ticket to ride, each ticket was a dollar so you only paid $1 per ride rather than the 3-5 tickets {dollars} it would normally cost. We had so much fun, especially Michael. There was plenty of parking when we got there, it wasn't too crowded and Michael went on 7 rides in a little over an hour {three of them one of us had to go with him}. Shawn really had a lot of fun watching him and going on two of the rides - the fun house & super slide. I enjoyed watching him but didn't like the ride I went on with him so much. I can't remember the name of it but it went around in circles much quicker than I anticipated and then when I thought it was done, went in reverse - I used to ♥ rides like gravitron & the zipper but now that kind of stuff gives me a headache.

On the fourth of July Shawn was off work so we hung out at the house. The boys wore red and the girls wore blue - I wanted to get a group photo but didn't want to risk it with my dieing battery and fussy kids. So we got some photos of each of us with the kids and the kids alone. We had planned on going back to the festival to watch the fireworks but realized it would be much easier to stay home and watch from the sidewalk. The show started 2 hours after Lydia's bedtime so I'd be struggling with her, the parking would be awful & we'd have to walk a long distance to the field, finding a spot on the field would be nearly impossible because of all the people who went to the festival that day...just a lot. So one year when the kids are a little older we'll brave the crowds and watch the show up close, until then it's a sidewalk show for us. I think this was better for Michael this year too. He covered his ears with as far away as we were I can just imagine how he would have been if we were up close. He really liked it though and was very upset we couldn't make them do more when it was all done. I hope all my fellow Americans enjoyed your fourth, I've already seen pictures that prove many of you did. Thanks for stopping by!

Back to Cali {part 7}

Date Night

Hubby & I don't get many chances to go out on dates since we don't know anyone to watch our kids yet so we took advantage of having grandparents around willing excited to spend some time with the kiddos - along with all theirs - to sneak away on a date. Because of the busy schedule we didn't have free time until after the wedding. So after taking some time to rest after the busy day we got dressed, kissed the kids goodbye & left. And get this, we left without our cell phones. Awful, I know but totally unavoidable. Shawn had left his at the airport in Nashville on his way out to California and mine was somewhere in the house but nowhere to be found.

We decided to go have dinner & drinks at Chili's. There was about a 20 minute wait but we didn't mind. After sitting down in our booth we saw three other couples come in, baby carriers in tow & we did all but get on the table saying "na na na na" taunting them with our childlessness. We refrained. But we did give each other five under the table and laugh in our own delight. Having an evening out with no baby carriers, high chairs, booster seats, "mommy this" or "daddy that", or faces & hands to clean was so nice.

I had their featured drink - a fresh fruit watermelon margarita. We both ordered dinner but I can't remember just what it was. The margarita was yummy. I was going to order the small, Shawn said - no get her the grande. Boy they weren't kidding when they named this thing a grande. On my 21st birthday my co-workers gave me a large glass the same size filled with jelly beans - they said I could fill it up later myself - I thought it was for decoration! Ha! I found out later from a friend that it's also called a fishbowl, which makes sense cuz I'm pretty sure you could keep a fish alive in one of those things. That actually could make a cute decoration, have a beta fish in one at a bar area - I'll keep file that idea away. After dinner we went over to our friends house for a while and talked. On our way back to my grandparents' house we talked about how much we missed our friends and wish we had spent more time with them before moving. We also agreed that we needed more date nights so I think we'll take advantage when my mother in law visits next week! I just know she would love to babysit spend time with her grandkids and I think she understands the importance of alone time in a marriage.

If you haven't been out on a date with your hubby in a while get a sitter and go do something fun together. Even if it's just getting a coffee & talking for 20 minutes, whatever you can do to have some time with just the two of you. It's good to spend time together after the kids go to bed but it's just different when you leave the house.

Thanks for stopping by & scroll down to see more posts - this is my third in one day.

They Are Husband & Wife!

Finally! The highly anticipated wedding photos. What I have is limited, just what was taken on mine, my step mom's & grandmother's cameras. I'll have a CD of the professional photos after they are done and share a few I'm sure. The wedding ceremony was beautiful & almost went off without a hitch. I say almost because of two things: 1) us girls were a little late in getting ready so the ceremony started a little late 2) the flower girl (my little sister) refused to walk out. I think she was shy and overwhelmed by the large crowd. Even with that it was a beautiful day! Here is all of us pretty bridesmaids. Have I told you about the trouble we had getting our dresses? I'll give you the short version. I was moving out of state, another bridesmaid already lived out of state & a third was out of the country doing missionary training in Brazil. So we had to guess on one of the dress sizes, get info faxed from another & I had to cross my fingers that I'd lose the rest of my baby weight. Chriss was local so she had it the easiest. Since we couldn't all shop together & Rachelle wanted all of the dresses to be the same color we got a style in hopes that everyone would look & feel great in them. And we did! Here's a photo of the absent flower girl spreading flowers after the ceremony. My grandma made her dress, isn't it pretty? Similar to us girls but opposite - pink over brown rather than brown over pink. After the ceremony we took some family photos. Our large family was up first because of all the kids. This is the first photograph that has our whole family in it. For some reason at my wedding Shawn & Michael weren't in the large family photo. Plus since then I've added a baby, Carrie has added two and now Shell has added a husband. So from oldest to youngest I will list off the family. My dad Michael, stepmom Carrie, my hubby Shawn & myself, Rachelle & Jake {yes, she's a few months older than him}, Kevin, Christian, Caleb, Josiah, Hannah, my son Michael, Chloe, my daughter Lydia & Elijah. Wow! That's a mouthful. You can click on the photo for a larger view. I'm hoping the photographer caught one with more of them looking at the camera - that is quite the task! During the reception we toasted them, they cut the cake, danced & drove off to their honeymoon. Okay, there was a little more to that like the bouquet & garter toss and the constant going in & out of the reception to take more pictures, the whole bridal party got to participate in that. And the first time they only drove off in the car for photos as there were even more bridal party pictures to take after that. We almost lost one bridesmaid in the confusion of it all & did lose two bouquets.

It was a great day of celebration. Only one thing was missing - my mom. There was a pretty memorial table set up in her honor with a photograph of her & Rachelle when Rachelle was trying on dresses. The photographers edited out the other people, changed the background & made it look really nice. There was a beautiful flower arrangement of various shades of purple - her favorite color and pinks & a purple candle that Rachelle & Jake lit early in the reception. I had a bittersweet sort of feeling. Happy for my sister and sad that my mom couldn't be there to celebrate with her & watch her youngest daughter get married.

Smart Habit Saturday {week 2 July}

I'm sad to say I wasn't so SMART this week. I think part of it was recovering from vacation, summer hitting, hubby having more time off than usual, the fourth, my son's birthday...many things but bottom line is I was a SLACKER.

This week I really need to kick it into gear because my mother in law is visiting next week and while she doesn't except things to be a certain way, I want the house to look nice when she gets here. Plus I'm tired of boxes just sitting in our bedroom - stuff we need to get rid of, not unpacked. Michael's room is overflowing with toys and he's grown out of some of his clothes so I need to reorganize his whole space. There's a few items in Lydia's room to go through and then our room needs quite a bit of attention. Between the boxes of stuff to get rid of & piles of things to put away it's just a mess. Downstairs isn't so bad but still a few areas that I want to take care of. Like the massive pile of I'mnotsurewhatitisbutI'mtiredoflookingatit on top of the washer, clutter in the corner of one counter and the cabinet that I still haven't organized even though things fall out every time I open it and I can never find anything. So plenty of stuff to do - I just haven't felt so motivated. Maybe my mother in law visiting will help me to work on that. What I think I really need is a schedule of some sort. When I went to work and earned a paycheck I was a fairly motivated employee and always completed my tasks and then some. Nowadays I just don't feel the same. So I'm thinking that if I have some sort of schedule and think of this staying at home with the kids gig in the terms of being a homemaker {as my job} then maybe something will kick in & I'll get on the ball. Not that my husband gives me a paycheck but all the bills get taken care of & I do have a pretty lax life compared to those moms who work in & out of the home. I'm not sure if any of this makes sense - bottom line is this: I need to get on the ball.

My new habit this week is to work on creating a schedule for myself. I really want to get this figured out before my husband deploys because then it's all going to fall on my shoulders and I don't want to get overwhelmed & not be prepared. You can check out my Joe's Goals to see this weeks progress if you want.

Thanks for stopping by. Click on the photo to see the current SHS post or check out The Lazy Organizer and check out more information on SMART Habit Saturday. If you haven't joined in yet - what are you waiting for? It's a great source of encouragement, ideas & accountability {to yourself more than anyone} for developing new habits.

Good luck this week!
