Violated

So I had planned on having some kind of normal post by now, Easter weekend recap maybe. And then yesterday happened. My yahoo & myspace were hacked into. Long story short I learned a VERY important lesson the hard & frustrating way. So take note & learn from my mistakes:
  • Follow the password prompts that warn you your password is low security.
  • Don't use a password that someone could figure out in short conversation.
  • Change your password periodically so you don't feel too 'safe' with it.
  • Even 'casual' conversation can reveal a lot of details.
  • Don't be so trusting of people you don't really know.
  • People LIE!
So the last couple of days I've been trying to sort this out, warn anyone on my friends lists that some person is out there posing as me trying to get their information and frantically switching all of my online accounts to my alternate e-mail address. It's been frustrating & tedious. So far it doesn't seem there is any serious damage done & I'm SO thankful it wasn't worse. I made a new myspace but made it private and will not add anyone to my friends list - messenger or myspace unless I know them. I have been thinking about my blog and if I should make it private. So that's something I'm still thinking about. I hope that by this weekend I'll have more of a clear mind to do a more regular post. For now I've got my thoughts & plenty around the house keeping me busy. Oh & I have I mentioned how much 'tude a 3 year old can have? :sigh:

Are you serious?? I can't belive that, why would someone do that to another person. Do they not have a life of there own that they have to get into other peoples stuff and mess with it. I am so sorry and I hope it all works out ok.
I was just thinking of this the other day and I am like why would it happen to me I am a nobodya nd post nothing of big secrecy, but I guess you never know.

UGH! That stinks you have had to deal with all of that. Hopefully everything works out!

The safety/security thing always maes me nervous as well. I don't post personal photos on my blog for that reason.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I remember when my MySpace got hacked. I actually fell for a phishing site. They never did access anything else, but I started changing passwords anyway.
Try not to get too frustrated.

I am so sorry! It's hard to have your trust shattered like that. (If you go private, I hope you'll add me to your list...I'd miss you and the kids if you were gone).

Wow. That makes me glad I made the decision to go private after this weekend. It's true, you just never know...it could happen to anyone! Sorry you were so violated. It's sad when it's hard to trust anybody in this world these days.

I hope you find peace.

I had the same problem on another blog site. That's why I am on blogspot. I had someone pretending to be me. They changed their name to wbf(doglover) and would post not so nice comments. Anywhere I post, I use the photo of the two dogs so people know it is me. My password(s) include my mothers birth last name (she is adopted).

I try to be very careful of what I post and because that site was a local TV channel, I had been on the news with my first and last name published - I felt someone that had come by my house one day was that blogger.

I have just stumbled across your blog and have you on my list to read. I hope if you go private, you would include me as well.

Sorry about the 3 year old.

I can't believe it. I just removed all the post with my kids' names and am trying to figure out what to do from there.

There are some creepy people out there with far too much time on their hands. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Wow! I just looked at your sidebar and noticed how soon your husband will be home! (though it's probably not soon enough for you...)

I drifted-in from Triond: -very sorry to hear about the hacking of your space. :-( My wife blogs, and a friend of her also, and HER husband has a lucrative, professional career and someone from "Mrs'." workplace did a seminar on 'web safety' and using comments posted on her blog, -this took about 20-minute to read enough, this professional was able to correctly guess a multitude of details of their lives! -Full Names, street addresses, income, schedules, family doctor, schools attended by their kids, -etc.! Scared, "Mrs.", now quite scared of what information she had thrown out there, changed her blog-host, uses a strict password that includes a few non-alphanumeric charactersn and some CAPS/lowercase...

I just wanted to add that your blog is nice. My brother-in-laws are both military, so your posts mean something for me. And that's all that I'm going to say about that. ;-)

Have a nice day & keep on bloggin'!

-Joel (going to share some pics. enjoy!)
