So this may just be my naive unaware only lived in one state narrow minded view of things but it's summer so it's hot & it doesn't rain right? The "doesn't rain" part surely comes from my being raised in sunny California where you can pretty well predict the weather most times of the year without going to weather predicting school or wherever it is that the weather people learn their stuff. Out here in Kentucky I guess things may be different during the summer. We haven't had a thunderstorm for well over a month now, the one little sporadic one we had was too puny to count for anything. And the temperatures are rising. It is supposed to be 105* today. Again, coming from sunny California not so rare but out here people seem more surprised.
Back home when it was hot out we'd cool down at the pool, play in the sprinklers or make a slip & slide {plus the grass would get watered - bonus!} or go to a local water park. Because you know, it's summer and hot and that's just what you do. What happened here when it got hot & wasn't raining? They shut down the splash park by my house so now I can't take the kids to cool down and have some fun in the hot weather. I realize that droughts happen. I remember when I was about 7 or 8 and my parents had to wash the cars on the sidewalks to save water by using it for the lawn at the same time. Because of the no rain issue we can't water our lawns or wash our cars. I hadn't been doing either so no big deal, but no splash park? Meanwhile some businesses have pretty green lawns that people don't even walk on so what's up with that?
This morning when I woke up at 5:00 in the morning to take hubby to work it was already 75* in my house, by 9:00 it was 80*. I called up maintenance to send someone out to fix the problem. After answering all of their questions - are your exterior doors closed? {seriously, you think I'd call about my house being hot and open my doors to the warm outside air?} etc. Then I was asked if it was the fan or the outside unit that was not working. The outside unit wasn't turning on at all and the fan was blowing out warm air. So they say that someone will be out in the next 24 hours. I told her it was supposed to be 105* today and I didn't want my kids napping in 90* temps, or more since the upstairs is always warmer. I also explained that this was not the first problem we've had with the unit. The response I got? "You are lucky, some people's units aren't working at all." Huh?! So I should be so lucky & grateful that I've got warm air blowing out of my fan rather than nothing at all? I turned off the fan because the warm air made it worse. My situation was the same as everyone else whose units weren't working. Maybe if so many people have problems with their air conditioners they aught to install units that are a little newer and work better?
Like I said, I'm sure that this is my naive unaware only lived in one state narrow minded view of things but that doesn't make it less frustrating. Sorry for the vent, thanks for listening.
How is summer weather where you live? And how do you cope with frustrations that come along with that weather?

Oooh - closing down the splash park would bum me out too! As you said, what else can you do in that weather? And no one is going to overheat, as long as they stay wet.
I am so sorry about your air conditioner. Back in May/June of 2006, something was wrong with our compressor, it was in the 90's, and 2 of my kids had chicken pox. It's funny now (you can check out the blog I wrote on it - look for something written towards the beginning of June 2006 - you'll appreciate it, I'm sure), but it sure wasn't at the time!
That's really weird, sad, and scary all at once. I'm sorry to hear that the cold, refreshing water is so hard to come by. You're a long way from home, Toto...
I can relate. The rains have stopped here. After over 30 something straight days, which is a record for the state, it's now hot and muggy! Our house sits between 78-80 when my thermostat is set for 74. Then don't even get me started with what happens when I have to run the dryer! My dad says my house isn't insulated well, and I need to spray my attic with more insulation. He say's it would help keep the cool air in the house, instead of leaking outside.
You've inspired me to write a blog on how to beat the heat...tune in in a couple days.....
Ok...I blogged some suggesstions for ya!
Ouch. Our heat wave up here in Canada (Yep, we get 'em, too!!) is finally broken, so maybe yours will soon be as well. I'm sorry I can't offer any suggestions of how to keep cool -- other than spending the day in a nearby natural watery place, like a river or lake.
Oh you poor THING! I am SOOOO SORRY about your hotness! I have dealt with hotness before, as you know, and no one understands like someone who also has the hotness ;-) I can't believe those people won't help you with your hotness! RUDE! Ya know, you should go down there and explain your hotness in person, so they can experience the hotness for themselves! YOU GO MISSY! :-D
Sigh, I have a long sleeve shirt and a sweater on today...our weather has taken on a decidedly 'autumn' touch. I hope it doesn't last long.
